2010: Bring it on. Or, should I say Blog it on. Or, should it merely be (a la Wayne’s World):

Blog On!

you're invited!

For many of us bloggers, life can often be seen through the lens of blogging about it. How many times have you thought about going to an event, party, date, etc. with the distinct thought that it could become a great blog piece? Through my exhibitionist flair, I’ve done more than just think about it. I give great blog. The point is, as fragmented as it sounds, this type of blog lens has actually helped me to try new things and be more open to new experiences. That little bloggy writing motivation actually gets me through a lot.

My new blog girl-crush, Doniree, has asked us:

what are your blogging goals for the New Year?

This question–with my blog lens in place–got me thinking that this would be the most appropriate blog topic for my first post on my new “big girl” domain.

Look Ma! My own .com!
For those who don’t know (because you can’t assume that everyone knows you), hi, my name is Floreta and I used to blog at http://floretacui.blogspot.com. I have made the switch not only to my own host server, but from Blogger to WordPress. @ninoart, from My Kafkaesque Life, reminded me that 2010 is not only a New Year, it’s a new decade! This did two things. 1) Make me feel old and 2) Give me a rush of how incredibly charged 2010 and onward will be! So without further adieu:

My 2010 Blogging Goals

  1. Write more erotica – After my recent encounter, and yes, blogging about it, I have gotten a lot of positive feedback about my shift towards wanting to explore erotic writings more consistently. I even got Lilu’s approval saying (quote):

I saw on your 20SB that you’re considering a more permanent dive into erotic writing… gotta say, I think you’re pretty damn good at it, and that it’s a great idea. ;-)

If I get the TMI queen’s approval, then I must oblige. Writing erotica is exhilarating and you will help me see to it that I follow my own word!

  2. Have more focus – Essentially, The Solitary Panda is the same blog as my blogspot blog but I want to shift the focus in a more defined way, and that’s why I want to start fresh. Sure, this still is, first and foremost, a “personal blog”, but I’d like to explore more aspects of travel–with my upcoming journey–and culture. I’d like to have more consistent features almost as if I were writing my own magazine column. We’ll see how well that goes, but “travel, culture, art & erotica” is a good start by me.
  3. Build my community – I have a fairly big following from blogspot and I’m a little apprehensive as to how well the transition goes. Will I lose followers? Will you subscribe to my new feed? I’d like to build up my community via comments and engage people through social media more. Not in that I-want-to-be-popular sort of way. But in a genuine, this-is-what-blogging-is-about-and-I-want-you-to-be-a-part-of-that-with-me sort of way! I appreciate you. Thank you!
  4. Become professional – I blog professionally for companies but I’d like to see my personal blog become a somewhat professional hub for myself. Whether that be garnering a business venture via this blog or garnering exposure for a business venture via this blog, I’m not sure which. This is a bit of a conundrum for me because 1) Hello erotica! What will people think? But Colin, from Exile Lifestyle told me I should “own my sensuality”. Meaning, why not embrace my sensual writing, because that’s part of who I am? And, that gives me an “edge”, a unique way to “stand out”. So, if this somehow backfires on me as I try to merge my professional identity with my blog identity, I have Colin to blame it for (joking, I joke)! 2) Floreta is a blog identity. It’s like Perez Hilton but not as popular. I’ve chosen to keep Floreta because the name itself is a great personal brand! it’s more unique than, say, “Janet”, which is shrouded under Janet Jackson (you know, because I’m nasty; and that just gets old!). But nevertheless, navigating my personal brand with a pen name gives me a bit of an identity crisis!

I am truly excited for 2010 and my new blog kick-off; bringing in the new year with a bang! Come celebrate with me! Stick around. Have some drinks. Tell all your friends! Join my party!

So, what are your 2010 blog goals? What are your 2010 goals? Happy New Year, and remember, BLOG ON!

Congrats on your own .com! woohoo finally your own domain and your own identity! That's how panda roll! you own it! ehhehe

Your followers will always follow you don't worry :)

The erotica topic :) You go ahead and hit us with what you got! hahahaha I have always thought to write something sexy like that but my work attached too much with real world real person! it will degrade my professionalism in my line of work so I guess for now I will not do any of that stunt!

I love the Par-Tay!!!! come on and move it move it!

Last but not least, the question of goal for blogs is totally relevant! I have no goal for my blog, after so many years I still write junks! hahahahha okay I think I like it!

    Happy New year Floreta!

    XOXO

  6. Clairebear says:

    Hey hey!
Congrats on your own .com! I just officially moved to my own domain as of today, so I understand the excitement :)
I also understand wanting to be more focussed after the move – that is my aim for my blog in '10 as well…being more myself, and more focussed.

  7. floreta says:

    Happy New Year netster! :)
And yes! Now people will search pandas and come to my site! hehe
Yeah, the erotica is kind of gutsy. Not sure about it BUT I'm pursuing a freelance/self-employment thing so I'm not as worried. Plus, I'm good at it.
Bloggy goals are good to have, but as long as you enjoy it, then all's well!

  8. Emma says:

congrats on your new blog, I recently made the move from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress too. I just think there's so much more you can do with it! Good luck with your goals and I hope 2010 brings you happiness :)

    xx

  9. floreta says:

Thank you for stopping by. 2010 is an exciting year for me, so I'm excited to kick it off with a new blog! How was your switch? Did the transition w/ rss feeds work ok? I'm wondering about that process. I wasn't smart enough to figure out how to keep my google friend connect w/out starting over.

  10. bard says:

Actually… done. Thank you for your support and encouragement! ;)

  11. Happy new year and what a surprise :D Happy for you and hope you'll have a great journey, the one in Asia and the one here.

All the best luck and may it be a great decade :)

    Blog on, Panda ;)

  12. paschal says:

I just wanted to say that I am INCREDIBLY proud of you floreta! In the short time I have known you, you've gone through such a personal renaissance! I know I'm just a “blog friend” I can tell that you've become so much more confident and so much more ambitious! I Absolutely LOVE IT! You're doing great things!

    Welcome to the self-hosting blogosphere…!

I can't believe you put your boobs in your header image. There's no sense of decency in today's day and age…

    I don't like your font/spacing, but I guess that's a personal thing.

I also have a slight problem with the professional/personal writing divide. I'm not sure if it's an ACTUAL problem, or if I'm just thinking about it too much. *shrugs*

  16. Deeptesh Sen says:

Happy new year!!!!!!!!So glad 2 c ur new blog!We all luv u!!!!!!!!!!1Go ahead wth ur goals…n warm welcome 2 India!!

C my new poem…I just blogged it!!

  17. Deeptesh Sen says:

n yes!!I've always luved ur erotica stuff

  18. floreta says:

Finally someone with the decency to give me constructive criticism!! I knew I could count on you, Sebby. :) Not being sarcastic at all, I really do appreciate it. I changed the font/spacing a bit. Maybe it was too much. Re: Hosting, pshhh I already had a server w/ another domain, so for the same price, I have unlimited domain hosting w/ them! Easy and cheap. And what do you mean by the professional/personal writing divide? It's something I'm kinda 'stuck' on myself. And, I like my boobs. Don't you? They're decent. They're pandas.

  19. manju says:

happy new year pretty little panda ;)
i don't really have any blogging goals as it is, but good luck to you ^_^

  20. floreta says:

Which is a suprise, that I got a domain, or that I mention you in this post? ^_~
Yes, I'm so excited for both my blog journey and Asia!! :D

  21. floreta says:

    Hi there!
Thanks for stopping by and joining the party :D And yes how exciting for you too!! Congratulations! I would comment on your blog but I can't seem to load it. :( Hope I can soon. Here's to our blogging goals for 2010.

    Floreta

  22. floreta says:

Thanks for sticking around Paschal.. And for linking both blogs already on your site! That was fast :) I'm kind of stuck on that. A reader suggested I keep my old blog and still post/maintain both, rather than close it or keep inactive. Not sure what to think yet.

Always amazed by how I can understand your little Tagalog phrases you sprinkle in your comments, and how willing you are to research them! Maybe this being fluent thing won't be so hard after all? And now you can search through google on my site! I have an app where you highlight on any word on my blog and it will give you an option to search on google.. while still being on my page! From there you can search your phrases. hehe. Not sure if the app is helpful or annoying at all. Still deciding if I want to keep it.. Kind of a hidden feature that might not be obvious to people.

  23. floreta says:

When I was reading your comment I thought who the heeeck is this? But then I saw your signature and I'm so happy to 'see' you here! I'm glad you're back. I knew it wasn't the end for you, but glad to connect w/ you other than facebook. Will definitely be checking out your blog. And, I like the term “personal renaissance” :) I think I remember you saying something similar of yourself in one of your posts and liked it then too. Your encouragement means a lot. Thank you!

  24. floreta says:

Aww I love you for calling me pretty litte panda!!
    ^_~
And your blog is so awesome, I'm not sure that it needs goals to be great? You do a good job with it!! It's one of my new favorites.

  25. floreta says:

Thanks for the support Deeptesh and i'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind of keeping the old blog?? Hm. Still not sure but I'm thinking on it..

  26. floreta says:

I am too! and on your blog too!! How fun! Love it!!
    Happy New Year :)

  27. alssimmons says:

hi this is really inspirational… really happy that you have found your niche.
My aim this year is to find mines.
    Happy New Year!

  28. Sarah Nicole says:

I wish you the best of luck on accomplishing all of your amazing goals!

  29. LiLu says:

Congrats, hon! Love your new home! And I meant what I said ;-)

  30. Brittney says:

I agree. I tend to write oddball/fluff pieces, but I want to incorporate more actual insight pieces (or boring informative pieces like the vet saving thingy). I always struggle between — all business blog, or downright oddball blog, or a “lesson learned” almost insightful article blog?

So right now I think I'll work on building my blogging community and go from there, right? =D

  31. floreta says:

thank you! I don't think that having a .com necessarily means you've automatically found your niche, though. it's a hard/tricky thing to find! I'm still refining it.. but I think I'm getting closer :)

  32. floreta says:

    that's a good idea :D

I think one of the things that works/helps is to have certain features on your blog that are consistent. like i mentioned a magazine column, etc. Once a week, you could create certain days dedicated to a specific thing. Like I know there are Music Mondays, a day dedicated to photography, a day dedicated to whatever! Think up column ideas and come up with a clever name.. If you're really feeling ambitious, you could create some sort of graphic to come up with along with the feature, that way it has an easily recognizable image for consistency/repetition. At least, this is the advice I'm trying to go with for myself.. :P I'm really inspired by http://www.nubbytwiglet.com

  33. EMM says:

Thanks for checking out my blog, Floreta. Wish you the best in your new blogging endeavors!

  34. The_Song_From_Yesterday says:

    Hey Flo,
    loving your new home. :)
It's really nice to see you excited about 2010.
I really wish you the best of luck and a really happy new year.
You deserve it and I'm really excited about following your new blog. <3

  35. floreta says:

I'm excited that you can follow my new blog and that you're here! <3

Hoping for a wonderful 2010 for you and regarding UK.. i would not be opposed to that :D

  36. The_Song_From_Yesterday says:

My 2010 has started out nicely. I'm glad I can follow you're new blog home.
And I'm really looking forward to your future posts
and seeing the progress of your new home.
And re. UK you'd be very welcome and I'd like it very much. :)

  37. kristel says:

Happy New Year's to you! Congratulations on your new domain!!! I am liking the new and shiny layout–very sleek (and I love WordPress).

I can't wait to see what's in store for you and your blog in 2010. Especially the idea of having more erotica on our site–you have a knack for the genre and at the risk of sounding pervy (and I don't mean to sound that way), it's good stuff. Goood stuff.

  39. floreta says:

hehe new and shiny :) i like it! I think wordpress is loooads better for your own hosting. I was worried about the transition though but it's also freeing to start fresh!

Wait, more erotica on OUR site?? Are you going to write some too?? Cos that would be sexy. Ha. I like your vignettes as I've said. :) It's weird cos I really haven't read much erotica! So I don't have much of a basis to go by other than I guess I'm really inspired by Anais Nin and http://afterthepole.blogspot.com other than that.. haven't read much! And thanks!

  40. kristel says:

Oops, I totally meant more erotica on YOUR site! Just reading erotica makes me blush, my brain would probably hemorrhage if I ever tried to write it! LOL

But like I said, I look forward to reading more of it on YOUR site ;)

  41. Just subscribed to your new feed, how do you like them apples??

Blog goals… to get more followers but more importantly friends (oh and comments are love, lol). Blog friends make the world go round!

  42. floreta says:

yes! friends = followers.. i would say more than the other way around :) i would love to meet more blog friends this year as well! i've met one so far..

  43. Martin says:

    *makes self comfortable*

Cozy around here…I like the look of the new page, Floreta, it looks good. Good luck with all the goals, and look forward to following along.

  44. tiara says:

yay! Cool stuff! ;D I love your new home, well… I remember visiting the old one, once or twice I don't know, but I'm positive you're familiar, especially the name about panda, mweeheheh…

and thank you for visiting my blog and liking it :)

  45. Bryan says:

    Grape Job!

  46. latree says:

    congratulations!
I'm still thinking about having my own dot com…

I'm agree with what you think about what blogging is about. but i feel some times I lose the spirit…

  47. Kallay says:

Yes!! Blog on! Thank you so much for coming over to my freshly moved blog. I also just made the jump from Blogger to WordPress in anticipation of self hosting. All that's left is the hosting part. But I do have a dot com! :) Almost there! Good luck to you in this new *decade* and year. I hope to see you flourish! I love it when blogs go from ground up to ground breaking. It's inspiring.

  48. joemill says:

Wow, congratulations Floreta on your new domain! :)

Happy new year! See you around (pretty soon)! :)

  49. floreta says:

ah i thought .com WERE self-hosted. i'm kind of confused by it all still! good luck in finding a host. i went with hostgator.. a green host server :D and ground up to ground breaking? wow! thanks. not sure if i'd consider this groundbreaking yet but we'll see :)

  50. woweeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

congrats on your dot com :)

wishing you more goodness in 2010
